Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
Hello everybody. My name is Andrew Shalita, better known as Skinny Flat. I am a 17 year old DJ and producer. Since i was little i've always had a strong passion for music. My dad, being a classical musician, raised me in a creative environment, where i learned to play the piano at the age of 8. As time passed, my passion would become stronger and stronger. So when i was 10 i got my first copy of fl studio and started to mess around. By the age of 11 i got my first DJ controller, in which i learned an mastered my DJ skills.
When i first entered middle school, i met an incredible person who had the same passion as me. We downloaded Ableton and started learning. He would teach me all the new stuff he would learn, and i would do the same thing. Eventually our paths went different ways, but i continued developing my skills and my own sound. I still got lots to learn, so be prepared for 2018.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
Well, it's been a huge journey…Not only as a producer, but also as a person. So yes, of course my influences have changed over the years. For example, five years ago, i would look up to young artists like Martin Garrix, Julian Jordan, Madeon and i would think "They're so young, how did they do it?" I guess now i know that it's not that easy…That it takes years and years of practice, and that i have to be patient, because maybe my public isn't ready for me. Over the last two years i've had some major influences in my style of music, mainly guys like Chibs, Monxx and Dirtysnatcha, i am proud to say that i'm a Riddim producer, and i hope one day i would be able to work with those masterminds.
What´s new right now?
Well, first of all, my latest tune "Haywire" just got 10k plays on Soundcloud. I have some upcoming release in my channel called "The Analyst" which will be out in a few days. I've also got a release with Dead Cell Audio for December 20th. I've got some special releases for early 2018, but can't tell you right now, you'll have to wait for the surprises!

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?
The main thing is to be self-disciplined. To actually develop ideas instead of just thinking about them. To say "Hey, tomorrow i shall eq this bass" and the first thing you go do tomorrow (Before going into social media, before watching tv, before anything else) is eqing that bass. Self-discipline is the key.

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?
To be patient…It's not easy to finish a tracks, and when you're producing and you're listening to the same thing over and over again you get tired of it, so you start a new project. So the key here is to be patient and to be aware that finishing a track takes time and a lot of effort.
