Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
Hey, how's it going!? My name is Chief, better known as the masked mummy, Spunnn. I'm a Producer/DJ/Percussionist/recluse from Mississippi, now living in Colorado. I make all styles of electronic music from lofi/ downtempo to hip hop and G-House. My DJ sets have evolved from heavy UK dub, DnB, and as of lately, Deep House and G-House. Ive been producing and performing since 2009, releasing a handful of small EPs, Beat tapes, and DJ mixes via SoundCloud www.SoundCloud.com/Spunnn
And a plethora of remixes via Indaba Music and Wavo. Check it out yo!
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
My influences and taste are all over the board. Early on as a kid I listened to alot of jazz and classical, Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus, Thelonius, Etc, of course, the teenage years were just radio mainstream pop/rap, but in high school I found Modest Mouse, Cake, Gorillaz, Radiohead, Eminem, and many other alternative bands and artists. From there the dig for music just got weirder and more obscure. The lesser known and more underground it was, the better. In the early 2000s I was introduced to UK dub and IDM, DZ, Mala, Rusko, Bluetech, Bassnectar. It wasn't until I heard Bassnectar – Cozza Frenzy and Kraddy – Freak show that I became obsessed electronic music. I'm one of those people that when I have a favorite album, song, or artist, I play it constantly until I get tired of it or find something new. That's probably alot of my inspiration, mimicking what I listen to and taking some of those ideas and putting my own spin on them. There's a constant rotation of old and new stuff, plenty of go to artist like Bonobo, Emancipator, Maribou State for chill vibes, if I listen to rap RTJ, Eminem, Logic, Outkast, Ludacris, Gucci Mane, Zaytoven(gotta rep the dirty south). Real big into indie stuff as well, Caribou, Tame Impala, FKJ,etc. If I could list all the music and crazy stuff on my hard drives I would, but I like the options so I don't get bored. Even making music in one genre too long kinda gets stale to me, so I like the freedom to switch it up or try new things.
What´s new right now?
Working on alot actually. Finishing up a new remix coming out soon for Hollywood Principle. After the new year, planning to bring back my #DeepandDirtyBass DJ mix series and add a 3rd installment to my #APPS beattapes. An original EP is in the works as well, but you'll have to stay posted. if you've seen me on IG @Spunnn_Otta_Ctrl, ill be revamping the studio and the mummy mask for future shows!

Too many to name, Bonobo, ESKMO, RTJ, Machinedrum, Toro Y Moi, etc.. No particular order, just spouting out some names, def guys that I enjoy everything that they do, even if its out there, I still get it or I listened to them at very pivotal moment in my life and helped get through alot.

How do you personally discover new music?
It depends.. Personally, ill dig on YouTube for hours if something catches my eye or the recommendations are good. Just got into Spotify not too long ago, and I almost rarely go on Soundcloud anymore.
