STXNEWOLF

Read the STXNEWOLF Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

My name is Gus Wolf, I go by STXNEWOLF. I make electronic music using Ableton Live. I'm currently attending Berklee College of Music studying music production, while continuing to produce and release my own stuff.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

When I first really got into producing I was heavily influenced by Flume. Flume's first album had just came out and I was like "Wow I wanna do that". As time went on I got into more dance music. Guys like Coucheron who were making similar style of music but you could really dance to it. I decided I wanted to make more dance music and appeal to the festival audience. Louis the Child is also a huge influence. I really admire their ability to pump out happy sounding electronic music. I've had the pleasure of meeting them which was really inspiring.

What´s new right now?

Right now I'm working on an EP. I plan to send it out to some labels and hope for the best. You can follow me on Instagram @stxnewolf and find me on SoundCloud by searching "STXNEWOLF". I appreciate all the support!

Are you a superfan of anyone? How did you become a superfan? Do you remember how you become a fan and what turned you into super fan? Have you ever thought about why you´re such a fan?

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

When I first started making music I paid zero attention to dynamics. Everything was loud all throughout my tracks. For some types of electronic music this is acceptable, but if you add dynamics it will really take your track to the next level. Add a quiet softer part to your track, or adjust the levels of certain elements throughout your track. Dynamics hold the interest of the listener.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

My biggest challenge is always deciding that a track is finished. I guess I'm somewhat of a perfectionist, but more so I just want my music to sound the best it can sound. The thing that holds me back is getting all the levels right, getting everything to sound good in its place. It's not always the creative aspect but more so the quality aspect. I've been getting better at just accepting the fact that my music probably won't always be as perfect as I'll dream it to be. I've decided it's more important right now for me to just focus on being productive.

Once you discovered new music, do you tell others about the new music/artist you discovered? If yes, how exactly?

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?

My number one tip would be to finish as many tracks as you can. Get in the habit of finishing as opposed to just starting tracks and moving on. Even if you aren't 100% satisfied with a track, finish it.

We meet again in one year. What has changed?

A year form now I would love to be signed to a label and performing at festivals and other venues. I am currently working on my online presence, while trying to put together an EP. I plan to send my EP out to a few labels. In the mean time I'm trying to stay focused and finish as much music as I can.
