Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
Syruss Winn aka Syruss The Virus, hails from a small island in the outer reaches of Canada… But his bass frequencies and drum tactics has pushed his boat across the water to Victoria BC. A fairly new face to the bass music scene he's been making big steps forward! Although being in the game and producing his own tracks for just over a year.. you would think it's been longer! Splicing the gritty low sub bass sounds accompanied with steady drum hits with the ability to keep every one within ear shot sporting that dirty bass face.. while their body is moving with fluidity to the dark melody of the drums! Keep your ears to the ground in 2017.. because Syruss the Virus will be making the ground shake!
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years? Do you feel that changing tastes over years as artistic growth? ?
My influences comes from a very wide range of music, I absolutely love heavy rock/ metal music ( i still listen to Slipknot everyday ) but also love Rap.. mostly old school , classic rock , Dubstep , Trap and anything with good bass. My taste is always changing and i always love hearing something new or very trippy that just kinda gives ya that "Bass Face". The music industry is always changing and so are artists, Its important to stay up to date with whats happening. One of my favorite platforms for discovering music is Soundcloud but Spotify and Youtube are great too!
What´s new right now?
I have been fairly quiet for the last 2-3 months working very hard on new music and learning as much as i can to help with production! I have alot of tracks that im sitting on right now that im trying to make perfect and they are almost there, so you can expect new tracks from me in the near future! Ive been playing quite a few shows over the past summer which has slowed my production down but helps me get better at DJing, I have a pretty exciting show coming up in October here in Victoria with some of my fav DJs details coming soon on that too!

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?
I wouldnt really say ive made any mistakes.. i kinda just feel like everything happens for a reason. But one thing i wish i did do was start producing at an earlier age.

How do you get gigs? Can you share any tips?
Took me over a year to get my first gig and i actually won a competition to get it… extremely rewarding feeling when that happened. Id say your first show is the hardest to get but more will follow after if you do stellar job. My advice is get out in your local scene and talk to everyone especially promotors or anyone who can get you a lead on anything! And the most important thing to do is to establish friendships

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?
I think the biggest challenge ive had so far was just learning my DAW (Ableton) ive never used computers much before but i have a huge passion for bass music and really wanted to make my own, so i picked up Ableton one day and had to teach myself everything from Youtube because i had just moved to a new town and didnt know anyone and none of my friends were really into the same music. So it took me about a year of hard hard work to start making music im pretty happy with but there is still sooo much more to learn ?

How do you promote yourself? Do you have any specific promotion tips for other musicians?
I would start an email list of labels, blogs and music channels that i really like and are similar to my style of music ( Big and Small ) and every time i have a new track that i want to release i will send to all them asking for feedback, and alot of the time they might not reply but they are super busy and it never hurts to keep trying! Sooner or later they check it out!
