Based in East London, she has also had a successful career outside the UK, in Ibiza, Paris, New York and Austria ( having been a resident DJ for the Snow Bombing festival for over ten years. Bex is currently installed as a regular DJ for The NFL at Wembley Stadium, where she has enjoyed playing to crowds of more than 80,000 for the past four years. DJ TBX is regularly booked in and around Hackney’s finest venues and has also enjoyed notoriety as a radio DJ on Hoxton FM with a weekly live show. How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
TBX started djing in 1990 after being thrown out of art school. It was the second summer of love and house and techno were the order of the day. Over time TBX wanted to show serious technical skills by being able to mix any genre in a cohesive way to create a story for her dance floor disciples. There were so few females djing, Lisa Loud and Nancy Noise most noteably but the majority of the girls were playing house, everyone was! But TBX Stepped left and favouring labels like Ninja Tunes and Tommy Boy she worked in some serious breaks and beats into her sets, influenced massively by 80’s hip hop she just couldn’t keep her hands off the mixer and vinyl. Still evident in her mastery of the turntable as an instrument today. Progressivly learning new skills and digging through the classics whilst keeping her eye on the future, her knowledge of music is vast and her insatiable appetite for learning new ways to bring it to her audience is impressive.
What´s new right now?
TBX now enjoys residencies in and around East London’s Notorious Hackney. Most noteably Pub on the Park on London Fields. She’s reclusive and hard to find, barely even promoting her gigs online. After years shying away from the lime light and playing where people enjoy the music rather than the Egoistic ‘ Boiler House’ style ‘ selfie sets’. So if you do catch her be sure to know that every tune selected and mixed by this absolute career DJ has been done so with so much heart and soul.
