Read the The Daniel Interview below and share it on social media.
Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
I’m The Daniel – I make and play jackin’ house and fun techno in Amsterdam, and play clubs and underground parties in Europe and the US. I’m a big fan of dancing in the DJ booth, and go for bassline-focused tech house and “keep techno sexy” style techno when I play out. My productions cover a more varied ground, from synthpop-influenced tunes to really gritty retro house to totally different genres under aliases Ratio and Dharma Club.
I used to live in California, where I started an event series and Burning Man camp called Zero Fucks. with my San Francisco friends. The party and camp has grown *a lot* since I left it in the capable hands of DJ Spacecamp and the rest of the crew, and I’m very proud of what it’s become.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
My influences are all over the map – when I was much younger, I was a band guy, way into guitars and live drums and very pop-oriented songwriting. Then I played in a few bands in LA that were progressively more electronic-influenced. Of course the whole time I was raving as well. Dance-wise, I cut my teeth on house and hard house in the Midwest, and then started dancing to nu school breaks at burner parties in LA, and then discovered Droid Behavior and the joy of stomping it out to techno in a pitch black warehouse.. but ultimately I always come back to house. I like a little emotion in my music. I’m more of a Panorama Bar person than a Berghain person, ya dig?
What´s new right now?
I’m playing The Jazzebel in Amsterdam on 23 December with Kraut and Guido de Beer, and a few undergrounds up here in the next few months as well. As always follow my facebook and insta for up-to-date info. I hope to return to play on the west coast of the US in the spring, TBA.
I also have remixes & bootlegs up on my soundcloud regularly, live techno jams on my youtube channel, and a record coming out soon from my Dharma Club alias, label TBD – look for it!
