Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
My name is Matt Francisco and I produce music under the name TRITON. I create mainly chill music, but I occasionally like to work with other genres like future bass and trap.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
I originally got into the EDM genre listening to Monstercat's first few compilation albums. During that time, I loved the tracks that were weaving delicate chord progressions into huge dubstep growls and beats, I loved the contrast between the two. Artists like Tristam, Rogue, and Varien were doing some amazing stuff that really inspired me. I'm also a percussionist, so I have always listened to lots of classical music. I'm a huge fan of beautiful soundscapes, so I've also been heavily inspired by film scores and video game soundtracks. More recently, I've been listening to a ton of ambient music and indie rock.
What´s new right now?
I'm currently a college student, so the past year or so has made it quite difficult to work on new music. I have some ideas floating around, however, and would love to start working on them when I get a chance. I want to take a step away from EDM-inspired music and create more ambient, lyrical pieces of music.

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?
Learn some basic music theory. Getting that little bit of musical background and understanding of how it all works gives you a HUGE leg up in the game and will save you a ton of time.

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?
Copy and paste a chord progression for the entire length of your track and then add/remove stuff until it becomes a full track. I have made so many 8-bar loops, but don't finish them because I forget to just extend it out to make space for more ideas.
