Read the William Da Vida Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

My name is William and im a DJ and music producer.
I´m from Stockholm, Sweden.

I produce electronic music, mainly house & techno.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

I bought my first daw like 10 years ago. Then i was 13 years old. At that time EDM as we know it became mainstream and the DJ:s became the new superstars. In my own circle of friends people looked up to Swedish house mafia and everybody wanted to be like them.
In that time i seeked inspiration in the music who came from the big speakers at the big EDM festivals.
To be honest, my music at that time sounds like shit and my music from that time is unfortunately still public out there.

I started to seek inspiration from all corners and i found some old sets from Carl cox and more "underground" music.
I got more in to the rhythm instead of the big drops and that also affected my music.
Today my view on music have changed drastically from that day i use to listen to Swedish house mafia (Even if i haven´t left them all behind).
I listen to bands like Pink floyd, kraftwerk, Depeche mode, early Black Sabbath just to mention a few.

When i create Electronic music designed for the dancefloor i seek a lot of influences from the music before 2010, everything from trance, house and techno. I do not say that we should´t strive forward but there is something in the music of today that we´re missing from that time, i hope in some way i can pick up that missing part in my future music.

What´s new right now?

Im in a lot of projects right now, everything from collaboration with local singers, composing film music, building my own studio, promote myself, and working on my own music.
To say the least I'm in the starting line to establish myself as a producer and artist.

I cant really tell at the moment what sources all of this is gonna pour out through, but please have a look at my personal soundcloud and my booking page

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

Your music will probably doesn't sound good in the first year, but that´s okay we all been there and we worked it through.
My biggest mistake was to aim to become famous quick even if i didn't have a clue how to make quality music. I still have tracks out there that i wish wasn't in my name but they are.
So just listen to music and find the influences of your influence and learn the techniques of music production step by step.

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?

When it comes to mixing and so on try to find some classes with real teachers, it will help you a lot and you will understand the theories and the art of mixing a lot better.

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?

One important thing is to the learn genres and how the structures of one genre can be completely different from another.
If you are just out for making Radio music the secret is to find a catchy melody, that's the key.
And if you already got one and you don't know how to make a whole track out of it, just break down to the chords and work from there.
Maybe you can create a baseline out of it or something and from there you can add the chords and then the lead, and try to work with variations and try to stick to the plan and follow a clear structure.

Listen to music, just don't listen as the regular listener but develop your ear as a producer. Try to breakdown every single bit of the songs and how they add some weird percussions for an example.
