Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
We are two music loving guys from Sweden. Joakim, 20 years old & Albin, 19 years old and together we form Z3BRA, a DJ and producer duo. We have been producing music on our own for about 4 years and a couple of months ago we decided to bring our forces together. We live in a small town in the centre of Sweden called Sundsvall. We are also neighbours which means we have the possibility to produce music together almost every day, and when we don’t we always try to be creative on our own. Sweden is a great country musically and many great artists are from here which gives us the hope and spirit to continue making music, it shows that it’s not impossible to succeed. The dream is obviously to be able to make a living on our music.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
The music plays a huge role in our lives and we always listen and try to find new music that inspires us. Right now we’re really into the whole future bass/trap genre, it all depends on how you want to categorize it. There are so many artists that influences us. One of the biggest are The Chainsmokers, and their journey from solely edm producers to finding their sound, writing their own songs and so on. We have kind of different musical backgrounds so we figured it would be best if we told our stories separately.
I (Albin) got really into house music when I was around fifteen, and have been obsessed since then. Back then the progressive and big room house was really popular so there’s where I have my roots and I still enjoy listening to it. But in the latest year or two I’ve taken a lot of interest in more hip hop influenced music. I’m still into the four to the floor, 128 bpm house songs but the trap kind of beat feels just a bit fresher at the moment. Also I have become more interested in the musical part, such as songwriting and structuring which I sometimes felt were lacking in older four to the floor songs.
(Joakim) I´ve always been a real sucker for rhythm and melodies, I love drums, percussions and bass so hip hop has always been closest to my heart. I listen to hip hop every day even if i make a different type of music. But that´s also why i think the combination of me and Albin are so good. We combine my knowledge of hip hop music with he´s knowledge of house music which i think gives our music that fresh and new sound. But like we said we are obsessed with music, when we are in the studio we always listen to all kinds of it to get inspiration.
What´s new right now?
Like we said we started Z3BRA a couple of months ago and we are constantly making music, we got 4 remixes released on soundcloud and are right now working on new original beats. We are working with a really talented singer who has been writing some dope lyrics so we’re very excited to release our first single. The goal right now is to make as much music as possible and release original content so the world can hear what Z3BRA is all about.
In a couple of months we are actually moving to Spain to get away from the swedish weather, chill out and make music. Hopefully we can start getting some club gigs as well.
