Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
My name is Jordan Rothwell & I'm 24 years old. I produce dance music under the alias 'Kaiba.' I've been producing for roughly 6 years and I've been djing for just over 3. I'm currently putting all of the time and effort I can into my 'Kaiba' project. Anything from finishing up my new E.p to releasing drum covers & videos on YouTube. I write all styles of music and I'm constantly wanting to branch out into other things and learn. Music is everything and it's incredible. We should all do more to open our minds and respect other styles.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
My style and taste has changed drastically over the years. I started drumming when I was about 9 years old and from that, I fell in love with heavy metal and other styles of rock. I spent my time in a few bands doing local shows. It was great. But Shortly after leaving the band I discovered Eminem, so that set me off into the rap world. I quickly became addicted to artists like Dr dre, biggie smalls, Tupac & most of the other rap legends. Rock and rap were my thing for a few years until I discovered the prodigy. At the same time my cousin showed me hardstyle. I think that's when a small dance music dream was born. Ive always wanted to perform and to be involved with music but hearing dance music for the first time really changed the way I looked at it. Then I found Dubstep in its very early stages. Dubstep literally changed everything for me. I found myself hooked on the slow half time drum beats. Ide go back to the drum kit the next day and start playing dubstep songs instead of heavy metal ones. Skrillex was the man who opened up my mind. I remember laughing at his music when I first heard it because there was Nothing like it at the time. That was what did it. My style varies every day but it doesn't exactly change. I'm in love with all styles of music and what people are doing at the moment is great. I feel the barrier has been dropped and people are producing what ever the hell they feel like. This is amazing. It's what we need. Everyone is an influence and everything is inspiring.
What´s new right now?
I have a few bits and bobs that I'm working on at the minute. I've recently made the move to KangarooBookings which are a dj agency based in Lyon, France. They will be helping me with promoting my music and with European bookings. I also sent a demo to a well established record label a few days ago and they emailed me back requesting more music. That one track has now turned into a 4 track e.p that I'm super excited about. Ive put everything I can into it including writing lyrics and rapping over one of my tracks. It's the first time I'll be showcasing my lyrics. To say I'm nervous would be an understatement. I've never done an e.p and I've never had a release on a big big label before. But I'm excited. I've not long released a 110bpm track and there will be much more to follow!
