Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

Hi everyone! My name is Alex Rinaldi aka DJ ALDI, and I am a 20 year old upcoming DJ/Producer. I am from Toronto, Ontario and have been djing at the hottest clubs all over Ontario for the past two years. I have been mixing music since I was 15 years old and developed a passion for the art of djing as well as the art of music production. I mainly mix various genres of EDM, hip-Hop, R&B, dancehall and soca. I am constantly learning how to mix new genres but above all I do appreciate all types of music! I started djing because I fell in love with the ability to not only make people dance, but to have the ability to create reactions and spark emotions in others that create memories that last a lifetime. Djing and making music are not just hobbies of mine, they are passions that I hold and someday want the world to hear. In my opinion, djing is not simply just mixing music and performing. It involves bringing people together and having the ability to heal ones soul through the universal language of music. I am new to music production but I am constantly learning and improving everyday. My goal is to create songs that aren't just cool to dance to, but move people and influence them to pursue their passions as I am. I would appreciate it if you follow me on my social media platforms listen below and would provide feedback after listening to my mixes/tracks. Thank you for the support!

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

As I mentioned in my introduction I started djing when I was 15 years old. This is because my father was a DJ when he was a teenager and is my first influence when it comes to learning the art of mixing music. After teaching me the basics of mixing I developed my own passion for the art and began learning even more techniques from Djs around the world. Most of my early influences are from listening to the BBC Radio One Essential mixes that my father would play on the ride to hockey practice or on the way to my soccer games. I fell in love with the art of mixing after listening and dissecting the 1994 GOA Mix by Dj Paul Oakenfold on the BBC Radio One. The mix consisted of seemingly effortless transitions combined with songs mixed in a calculated sequence as if the mix was a two hour long song rather than a two hour long mix. Fascinated with this ability I use certain techniques derived from the pioneers of djing in to my mixes. My later influences include artists such as Tiesto, Stanton Warriors, Pete Tong, Blasterjaxx, and Laidback Luke. All of these artists share the same vision, persistence, and drive for excellence in which I emulate to the best of my ability in all of my mixes/tracks. My taste of music used to be very limited to certain genres of EDM, but has grown to not only EDM but also hip-hop, rap, dancehall, soca, and even classical! As I grow my fan base a lot of my new influences/motivation comes from fans that support me and share the love for music. With a growing fan base I have the ability to be reassured that my vision along with consistency will lead to greater things in the future. It is astonishing to have people along side me every step of they way believing in me at times where I might doubt myself.

What´s new right now?

I currently just released a 2018 summer house mix on soundcloud which is linked below. I have some top 40 mashups and other mixes posted on my soundcloud as well. I am releasing my VIP mix very soon which includes music from various EDM genres. I play mostly downtown Toronto and post where I am playing on my social media platforms daily. In the future I will be releasing tracks of my own and mixes from every kind of genre! If you could kindly follow me on my social media platforms that would be much appreciated and also provide feedback as your opinions are highly valued. Your feedback allows me to be the best Dj/artist I can be and allows me to connect with my fans!

Are you a superfan of anyone? How did you become a superfan? Do you remember how you become a fan and what turned you into super fan? Have you ever thought about why you´re such a fan?

I first became a super-fan of the dj duo named Blasterjaxx. I was always a huge fan of EDM and when they first came to the scene their songs were composed in the most perfect way I connected with them on a personal level if that makes any sense. I am a huge fan of theirs because I can feel that they take pride in their work and strive for excellence as they refuse to release mediocre composed tracks.

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

The biggest mistake I made was listening to people who doubted me. I know it sounds cliche but it's true. Listening to people that doubt you and caring about what they say only brings you down further. You have to remember that they do not see your vision and that most of the time people want to see you fail because they are jealous that you are taking risks and doing something they wish they had the courage to do.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

My biggest challenge right now is mastering the art of music production. I was never into music as a kid so I have to learn music theory and production software on my own. I have very talented and musically inclined friends who have been a great help in teaching me music theory and production software. We have the ability to learn from each other and collaborate which makes the process of learning a lot less stressful.

How do you personally discover new music?

I use soundcloud and spotify to find new artists and tracks. I will look up a genre of music and listen to recommended artists in that genre. For certain genres I will find a record label that I know that has signed artists that I like and keep an eye out for new releases.

Once you discovered new music, do you tell others about the new music/artist you discovered? If yes, how exactly?

“I usually "tell" people about new music through my mixes. One aspect of djing I take pride in is finding new music, mixing the new music, and then gathering feedback from my fans to see if they like it.

We meet again in one year. What has changed?

My plan for the nest 12 months is simple. Produce the best music and create the best mixes I possibly can while putting in the maximum effort and consistency to do so. I believe you must have a certain mentality as a music producer/dj to be able be successful and make it a career. The next 12 months are going to be all about learning and applying what I learn to create excellence.
