BEDIAN (Ian Goltrant): Musician/Live performer/Dj/Electronic producer/Sound designer/Video Artist

I'm coming from Lille in north France and I'm actually living in south France between Carcassonne and Narbonne.
I'm originally a songwriter, singer, guitarist, bassist, drummer and since 2000 I'm an electronic musician too.
I've started to play music when I was 18, beginning to write songs with guitar. I'm an autodidact and I've mainly learned music from my improvisation bands experiences.

My first electronic project was "FxRelease" which was about drum'n'bass style with a psychedelic touch and a cosmic dub touch.
I've been working several years on improvisation/experimental and DIY projects, giving some conferences and doing Live performances (like "Projet &").
I finally found my electronic way through 2 main projects:

-"Tra-Fx" which first was a Techno project formed in 2011, and it is now about my faster style, DarkPsy/Forest/Psychedelic Trance with a big Techno influence.
2 Dark Minimal Techno Ep has been released by the russian label Absolutely Dark Recs in 2015: "Tra-Fx – Night Turns Ep" (release date: 2015-06-07) & "Tra-Fx – The Lunar Cycle Influence Ep" (release date: 2015-10-26).

-"Bedian" project is about my lower styles, I've begun to work on it in 2013: Techno/Minimal/Dark Psybient/Dark Ambient.
An Experimental/Dark Ambient Ep, "Bedian – Resonnance of the Dark Matter" has been released by the French label Quiet Strength Recs (release date: 2016-01-24)
I have participated to the Hexx9 Rec (us) label launch in 2015 with 2 tracks ("Enter the ritual" and "The priest they call…Aum") released in the Hexx9 V.A compilation "Ritual : a darkwave compilation" (release date: 2015-9-19).
I've been playing (and I'm still playing) this project as a Dj and a Live performer in french parties and festivals since 2014.

I'm always opened for booking so don't hesitate to contact to me.
Music is a trip, music is life…Enjoy the journey!!

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

Bedian is a Techno/Ambient project with a lot of different cultural and musical influences.

I've already mentioned the influence of improvisation music in my way to play it and to create it.
Psychedelic music is a main influence in my music, in all it can be and whenever it could have been.
I'm very influenced by artists of concrete music like John Cage and I often use records I've done of concrete sounds to create atmospheres, sound fields or percussive instruments.
I love so much big techno artists too like Richie Hawtin or artists from Drumcode label for example.
I'm very influenced too by the Dark Techno scene and the Psychedelic Trance scene, I love artists like Hefty, artists from Dmt Recs and from Parvati Recs and so much more.

I have experimented a lot of different styles and forms of music in my life so we can say there are usually a lot changes of styles of music in my practices and productions.
Anyway as I said it before BEDIAN is dedicated to a large panel of music and it will stay in this kind of orientation in future years:
Dark Techno, Minimal, Dark Ambient and Dark Psybient styles.

What´s new right now?

Right now I'm working on a self-produced digital Lp which would be released during 2018 or 2019 on a blog like Bandcamp .
I'm thinking about it as a free or on donation LP.
At this moment, I have only few gigs which are still in talk to schedule 2018 so I've not, by now, events on which to communicate.

You can support my work and you can join me on my facebook artist page:

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

My biggest mistake in my beginnings was not to communicate the world about my work and my art. I was only thinking of music and I didn't care at this time about the importance of artists ' communication.

How do you get gigs? Can you share any tips?

I get gigs by meeting people on local scenes or through social medias. And sometime I receive mails from unknown crews which want me to come and to play my music. Those one often get in touch with me after they discovered me on beatport, soundcloud or facebook.

Do you have good promotion tips for other musicians?

I think to play live the music which is produced and to release albums are the first way for a music producer to promote himself.
Then to promote is about to communicate about its own art so main tips, in my opinion, are to multiply its own appearance on websites, on artist and popular clouds like soundcloud, mixcloud, vimeo, youtube etc, and so on the point is to communicate about all those web publications through social medias like facebook, twitter etc.
Writer blogs are very often a plus to artist community.

Do you have insights on how to grow your audience on soundcloud that you want to share with our audience?

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

The hardest challenge was and still is to keep making a living as a full time independent artist.

How do you personally discover new music?

By sharing music culture with other people

[gravityforms action=”conditional” merge_tag=”Yes” condition=”is” value=”Yes”]
Once you discovered new music, do you tell others about the new music/artist you discovered? If yes, how exactly?

“I share the new thing in privacy with my friends or I share it in public through social media or finally I play it in a Dj set in front of an audience. That's how I share new stuffs and If I keep it secret this is only for a very short time. My opinion is that music must not be a secret thing, I don't think we are good only because of what we play. I think what we emotionally share with audience while we play is much more about what music really is.

[gravityforms action=”conditional” merge_tag=”Yes” condition=”is” value=”Yes”]
What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?

Practice of course is the main tip but to listen to other artists, to investigate on their methods etc is important.
To keep his mind opened and to observe the world, to observe life are very important too.
Never stop learning at any point this is the way of an artist living.

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?

To finish a track is often a great issue for a lot of beginners and sometime professionals.
The biggest problem I have observed is that people wants to get the work quickly finished but this is not realistic if you don't have a good plan, a good scenario of what it is about and what is about to happen in this track.
So we are talking about the complexity to work on an instant idea or an instant feeling that we will have to let it sleep for a while to come back better and newer later to continue the creation of the track.
Second problem is that a lot of people will not let it sleep but they will let it die in a corner because they make the choice to work on a new stuff. So my better advice would be: when you're starting to struggle, let the track and breath for a week or a month then go back to it with a noiseless mind.

We meet again in one year. What has changed?

My plans on the next 12 months are to release an independent "free or on donation bandcamp" Lp of my Bedian's work.
I'm working on different side projects two. One is about a dj/vj live performance with video immersion and electro-mechanical music instruments created in DIY. This project was born few years ago with a first live performance (01/18/2014) which was called "Projet &"
