Clan EQ

Read the Clan EQ Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

Clan EQ is a completely new project from the culture capital of Russia, St Petersburg. We started in 2017, the first release was in the style of Tech House. At the moment, we spend most of our time on sound producing since we believe that this is one of the most effective tasks to prove ourselves and build a name.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

We will say that our tastes have not changed, but the way we are doing things now became different. We have gained a lot of experience over the past 2 years and for this reason we are now working in one specific format. We began to find a more personal approach to music labels and their managers, and of course when it comes to the tracks that we release with them.

What´s new right now?

We can report that we have completed work on our new EP “The Sea“ for Deeplomatic Recordings which will include 2 original tracks and 2 remixes from famous artists.

Are you a superfan of anyone? How did you become a superfan? Do you remember how you become a fan and what turned you into super fan? Have you ever thought about why you´re such a fan?

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

When we made our first tracks, we may have not quite understood when the work was done a 100 % and whether the track was ready to be sent to the record label for listening. And so we began to treat this much more carefully, maybe it´s better to send your demo to a couple of your friends so they can give you feedback before you send it to a label.

How do you get gigs? Can you share any tips?

We think that the best way to get gigs is a manager or a good agency of course, but for this you need to have a good stock of successful releases that would interest the manager or artist agency. We always get acquainted with new people who work in the field of music, you can meet people at music conferences, clubs, festivals, sometimes the same people send an invitation with a proposal to play a set.

Do you have good promotion tips for other musicians?

You can build a name or image yourself, but in order to promote an artist, we think it's better to leave it to the agencies and managers ,as only they have really effective resources to successfully promote a new up-and-coming artist. Of course we are using our social media (Facebook, Instagram, SoundCloud) to promote our music and projects in general. At this stage we are working with the Deeplomatic Recordings PR department.

Do you have insights on how to grow your audience on soundcloud that you want to share with our audience?

The SoundCloud strategy is to have opportunities for label podcasts or guest mixes on radio shows in order to remain relevante. You can also for example do free remixes and connect it to a promo base (for example The Artist Union) so people can repost tracks and follow your SoundCloud for free downloads.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

The biggest challenge since we started the project was getting in contact with music labels about the releases. We are following the label and their artists to understand exactly what they need and if we really have something to offer. We always have some tracks as backups in case a manager or music label asks you to send more demos to them.

How do you personally discover new music?

To discover new music we mostly use Beatport and SoundCloud., but we have some friends who produce music and sometimes they just send new tracks to us so we can listen to them and give our feedback.

Once you discovered new music, do you tell others about the new music/artist you discovered? If yes, how exactly?

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?

We believe that improvements in producing come with experience, you can always have some specific examples in the form of music or artists that you like and who inspire you to produce something more interesting, unique and with more sound quality.
