Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
I'm [Soma] from Sweden, been into the undeground electronica scene for almost 10 years, but my interest for making stuff started way earlier, as a young teen I built myself X/Y controller by remapping a Wacom Tablet to MIDI. For a long time I was mainly making noise/breakcore, I had no musical knowledge from before and didn't care about stuff should sound right or even good I just made stuff in any experimental form I could come up with. And from there one thing lead to another, and soon the project DiRTNOiSE was in motion. So a few years later I got Renoise as my first DAW, and started actually practice making real music, but always stayed honest with the gritty name. My music used to be loud and obnoxious but I have recently taken a turn and start making Hip Hop and Downtempo music. I've also worked in arranging underground Dubstep and DnB event in Stockholm Sweden when dubstep was new, so I've been here for a while.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
I still remember when I first borrowed NIN from the local school library in my early teens, it was my first introduction into underground electronic music, a friend got me into IDM with The Flashbulb, then I found Aphex Twin, Venetian Snares, Amon Tobin, Reso and many more. I was also into metal so I still really like to sample electronic guitars, the sound is so lush and is great start when processing bass lines. I Thing is though, I pretty much don't listen to music, I put on Carbon Based Lifeform and other ambient mostly; I really like either ambient or gritty bas slines. I was in a coma a few years back and it changed me and how I made music. The weird is that I've almost totally stopped listening to music and I'm not the best at making real music so I rather twists knobs till the morning until I got a soundscape I'm happy with, then I apply some simple melodies and work on the sound until I'm happy, so I'm usually not influenced by anything when making something. I'm kinda getting back into listening again, and I hope that with more knowledge will make me get better.
What´s new right now?
I just realeased my first EP on spotify! I couldn't decide if my first EP should be downtempo or loud music, so I named both anhedonia and the loud is on spotify https://open.spotify.com/artist/4jZ3vx9ThMpo01b0hczfyQ and the downtempo one is one youtube.. Sorry for the confusion, but currently I'm working fulltime on my downtempo stuff and plan to release my 2nd EP, hopefully from a label in not too distant future. First single is Årsgång(Yearwalk) https://soundcloud.com/n2077/arsgang
I'm also in a music collective called Northside Suicide where I am a beat producer but also making the artwork for it, you see I was a graphics designer before I really got into music, i still make graphics but I find music theory and production more interesting as there's always something new you can learn. Anyhow northside suicide consists of me, Trout Beatz, BCM and MPX-1 and we're a tight knit group making music togheter. Be sure to check out Trout Beatz, his beats are ill!! https://soundcloud.com/trout-beatz/back-to-the-trap-6-metro-boominsouthside-x-future-type-beat We are dropping a EP… "When it's done"
But back to DiRTNOiSE, I foresee that 2018 will be a really good year, I feel my music is going in the right direction and I also got a few others projects in progress that is going very well.
Thanks you for your time!
