DV Beats

Read the DV Beats Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

My birth name is David, but artistically I go by DV Beats as you can see. To give a quick synopsis of when I started producing music, it all started back in high school when I learned about the fascinating world of FL Studio and what it entailed. I started making hip-hop beats for my friends in band who rapped and recorded music. From there, after high school, I went to college and was exposed to EDM, dancehall, reggae, and many other forms of music I heard at the clubs or bars. Combining all of these influences with my Latino roots and upbringing of listening to Caribbean/Spanish music at home is what makes me the DV Beats that you hear today. I create music with Latino roots, Caribbean influences, and some world music sounds to give people a taste of the variety of music I am capable of creating.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

As mentioned above, I started creating hip-hop instrumentals during the very beginning of my musical journey. I still love hip-hop to this day and it's music that I still create in my free time, but over the years I have begun to really internalize with my cultural influences and started creating music based on what I grew up listening to (and still listen to). Being half Puerto Rican, half Panamanian and growing up in the United States, I was raised listening to a whole bunch of different genres of music, from salsa to reggaeton to dancehall to hip-hop to cumbia. From these different genres, I experiment and create fusions of these genres into one track. Right now, I have a lot of new music in the works that will reflect one or more of these genres. I feel that it's important to recognize where you came from, what your roots are, and how your cultural upbringing can really impact the type of art you create.

What´s new right now?

Right now, I just have a bunch of new tracks in the work. That simple. I'm working this year on rebranding myself and establishing myself in the marketing aspect of my music. Aside from that, I have been busy just upgrading the technical aspect of my music (updating software, clearing computer space, organizing samples) in order to improve my workflow. I'm also making it a goal of mine to be a lot more proactive in searching for gigs and opportunities to DJ and perform my music in live settings to others. At the moment, I have a lot of ideas on paper and set in stone that I cannot wait to start working on and fulfill so stay tuned ?
