Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
Hey! My name is Gil "Ene" Matos, a music producer and beatmaker from Santo Tirso, Portugal. I've always loved art and music, and since a very young age I knew that I wanted to make a living in those fields, so I tooked Graphic Design at school and started to try making some music at home just for fun, because graphic design was my passion at that time.
But in 2007 a friend of mine, "Suisso", who was in the biggest HipHop band in my town, "Diz.Pára", invited me to a studio session because he had shown one of my first ever beats to the crew and they liked and wanted to meet me. Since that day, I worked my skills and tried to learn as much as I can by myself, because at that time the beatmaking market was so poor in Portugal that your best option was to pratice by yourself, so yeah, i'm a selfmade producer! I eventually got in the band in 2009 I think, and gained a lot of knowlegde about professional studio stuff, how things work in the music business, and with the help of my "brother" Drino, I learned to never quit your dreams and keep pushing even if you got people trying to push you down. Stopped the music due to life problems, but getting a couple of major placements in Portugal with a very talented musician that goes by the name of Vokabulo made me wake up and start everything all over again. Now, i'm working on getting a successfully music business by selling beats online and work with people from all over the world.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
I get influenced by all kind of things and people, not just music. But as a young boy I listened to a lot of rock and roll because all of my friends were in the rock and roll scene. But eventually I diverged from them and discovered other genres such as jazz and soul music and I instantly falled in love. So I started to search more and more about those genres and got to HipHop, but I can listen to all kinds of music, as long as I consider them good within its genre.
What´s new right now?
Now that i've got my online music store running and my Youtube account growing, I want to get some gigs to Dj because it's a way to expose my music and see people dancing to my tunes mixed with famous tracks.
