Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
I'm Annisa Farah Firdausi, but I am commonly known with the name of Farah Firdausy. A multi-tasking singer, songwriter, music producer, sometimes a graphic designer and film editor. I am originally a South Asian, precisely an Indonesian. Still a freshmen in college, a Television and Film student of University of Padjadjaran. I've been doing arts since I was in kindergarten, and still improving my art skills by this second. I used to cover songs on stages with my sister and my soundcloud and you can check them on soundcloud (http://soundcloud.com/annisafarah) but by now I often write and produce the songs on my own – both English and Indonesian. My first song was titled 'Dream' – you can check it on my soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/annisafarah/dream-and-i-hope-its-real) and it was written in 2011. I have written around 20 (or more) songs in total. Considering that I major in TV and Film, alongside of being the editor of the film, I'm frequently asked to do the film and theatre scoring – teaming up with my college mate. We've made music illustration for several theatre performances (Dilema – 2015, Serenada, a poetry musicalization – 2017, Mentang-Mentang dari New York – 2017) and short films (the films are on post-production). Not all my songs are recorded professionally and published on soundcloud or any other streaming services, but I often perform them live on stage.
I've been featured with my sister on several local TV shows such as SCTV (Bintang dari Rumah, 2010), RCTI (DahSyat, 2010), and Indosiar (Indonesia's Got Talent – The Audition, 2014).
When I'm off in music industry, I usually accept commissions for poster, flyer, or logo designs. I'm also active in short film production – been active since 2015, commonly as a the editor of the film (Filmographies: Handycam (as an editor, DOP, camera person, talent) – 2015, Iblis dalam Lingkaran (school project as scriptwriter, DOP, camera person, editor, talent) – 2016, Kaum Marjinal di Tengah Hempasan Penduduk (documentary as camera person and editor), Ruction (as an editor) – 2017, Tembelang (as an editor) – 2017, Gelombang Nestapa dan Kemarau Panjang di Musim Hujan (as assistant director 1 and talent) – 2017).
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
My songs have been influenced by so many western songs – especially pop, acoustic, folk and indie songs. I'm not fixated on one artist only, but if somebody ask me who made me write songs, I'd say it's Demi Lovato. I've read her interviews on a magazine that she has written more than hundred songs and the music color of my first song was probably influenced by her music style. Yet years change, I listen to various kinds of music, not only fixated to a genre (I used to stick with pop, musical and jazz only, but I widen my interest in other music genres) and they indirectly influence the way I write the lyrics and produce the music. Since I often do acoustic performances with my youngest sister, the music that I produce would be mostly acoustic – filled with guitar and piano instruments. For the lyrics, I've got to say that the world and everything that happens here is the influencer and inspiration for me to write the lyrics. I've been trying to put lots of positive vibes on my songs. I have lots of great experiences during high school and I apreciate friendship so much, and that explains why my songs are mostly about friendship and stories about high school (go check 'See You on Top' and 'A Song for the World Peace' on soundcloud).
What´s new right now?
My new song, 'For the One Who's Turning Grey to Apricot' is out now on Spotify! Just type my name 'Farah Firdausy' or the title of the song. I also team up with my college mate, Biggest Duck (he's on Spotify too) for film scoring and music producing just since 2017. He also write songs and I'm featured as the lead vocal of his song and it's called 'Stay'. The other woks, such as film scores will be uploaded soon on our soundcloud. The recent scores my college mate and I produced was meant for a short film titled 'Ting-Ting', and another one was produced independently by me for a short film titled 'Liwu: The Gift'. Both of them will be played on the upcoming Moviekom 2018 in Faculty of Communications, University of Padjadjaran. I also plan to make the song I've just finished writing several days ago as a big project – a collaboration with my college and high school mates from various almamaters. It will be produced soon after my movie project is finished.
