Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

What's up guys, my name is KRXNIK (www.soundcloud.com/krxnikdubz). I am a bass music producer from New York City and have been making music for a little over 2 years now. I started Dj'ing a little over 4 years ago when I acquired an iDJ2go from Walmart. Since then I've been hooked either DJ'ing or making music on Ableton.

For those who don't know it's pronounced /kronik/.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

I started listening to dubstep back in like 2009. I first was listening to artists like Skream, Rusko, and Skrillex, who were, at the time, completely revamping the sounds we call music. I was really interested in this new sound and started to immerse myself in the culture. My first show was Porter Robinson at Pacha NYC Under 18 and I was bugging out. The lights, the loud music, everyone sharing a love for the same thing. It was pretty surreal. From then on I started going to more shows and eventually at 17 I snuck into EDC by paying off a security guard with my friends.

This was when my perspective really shifted. Never hearing bass music on a festival main stage before and seeing 12th Planet, Zeds Dead, and Borgore all on the same day really showed me the energy that this scene has. Since that day 12th Planet and Zeds Dead have been my main influences and it really hasn't changed other than a few new guys, but we'll get into that.

When the brostep fad happened in like 2013-2014, everything started to sound identical, I stepped away from the scene for a bit because I was tired of going to shows every weekend to hear the same thing. I started listening to more house and trap music and never really went to shows. This went on for a bit until the old sound started coming back and people began to call it riddim.

When Riddim started to rise I began to go into the depths of soundcloud searching for this old sound with a new twist. I actually found the small guys first like Ecto, Skenz, and yes.. Monxx (before anyone even knew who he was). This caught my attention for dubstep again and influenced me tremendously. Now I'm here.

What´s new right now?

Right now I got a few things lined up. I just finished the East Coast Tour with Trentcast and Mikrodot going through Boston, Connecticut, and NYC. I'm editing all the tour footage and will have a recap video soon as well as my own personal content. I've got about 3 tracks ready to be released. The next track coming out is a collab with the boy Joof and you guys can look out for the release on March 1st. Got a remix coming out of Bludbourne's track 'Monstrosity,' as well sometime mid March.

Be sure to follow me on soundcloud and all my other socials to stay up to date.

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

Don't rip tunes, if you like a song pay for it, and don't blatantly use serum presets. The presets are meant for you to deconstruct and learn from. Recreate sounds and get into sound design it will separate you from an extremely saturated market.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

I'd say my biggest problem is getting consistent bookings. Since I manage myself it is hard to make music and at the same time continually find promoters willing to book me. Overcoming this challenge is a hard one but the best way I manage this is having set times for producing and set times for management, which makes me want to rip my head off because all I want to do is make music.
