Mass

Read the Mass Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

I'm Massimo Marchesotti, otherwise known as Mass, and I'm a 21 year old producer and artists based in the UK. I've been mainly concentrating in creating hip-hop for the past 4 years.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

I would say that my music has definitely been influenced by the 90s hip-hop since I grew up listening to that, I used to be really into the classics like Nas, 2Pac, Biggie, my older brother later got me into Eminem, 50 and G-Unit because he was always blaring out the sound system. Throughout the years I have definitely had an interesting journey with music, I used to be really into metal, rock, jazz, but now I listen to a bit of everything, I feel like its important to get influences from a lot of different genres, every genre has its cool lessons to learn.

What´s new right now?

I've got a lot of things coming out, I'm bringing out a mixtape very soon, I can't really give an exact date due to some work which is still needed for the project but the mixtape will come out with around 8 songs and 3 videos to go with the releases which I'm very excited about. The only thing people need to do in order to check the release is follow me on my social media accounts so that they can get a notification when it comes fully out.

How do you personally discover new music?

Normally by browsing on Youtube or Spotify I managed to find some artists related to what I'm listening to and that seems to work for me pretty good, I've managed to find a couple up and coming artists doing that. I also think word=of=mouth is very important, if my friends are listening to some track that just came out or some new artist they will tell me.

Once you discovered new music, do you tell others about the new music/artist you discovered? If yes, how exactly?

“Definitely, I love music and love giving friends and people I speak with bands or artists which they would enjoy, I've had such a crazy extent of genres which I've really been into that I could talk for hours about good artists.

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?

Hard and smart work, going at it every single day is what really makes a difference and being organised helps with your whole flow of work a big amount. A rule I set for myself whenever I'm working is 'if you cant be creative be productive' because with production, there is always something else that has to be done, some tweaking or mastering.

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?

I would suggest analysing song if you really cant finish a track, when you start really listening to songs and concentrating on the arrangements you can start getting your brain used to how a song is supposed to go, or the many way songs can go, and from then on you will start knowing what you have to do next and how to build your songs.
