Midnight Manoeuvers

Read the Midnight Manoeuvers Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

Midnight Manoeuvers is the alias of artist and producer Phil Maher. Having worked within the industry for a few years producing House and Tech House under both his own name and as part of a duo "Rhythm 4 Reason", and having support from the likes of Fatboy Slim and Roger Sanchez, he has now taken on a new project of working under the alias "Midnight Manoeuvers", producing what he calls Melodic Techno crossed with elements of House and D&B, and throwing in some of those early 90's samples and vibes.
Over the last few years, he spent time working in radio and DJ'ing at bars and events, such as McQueens, Ministry Of Sound etc, playing alongside the likes of Digweed etc.
It was at that time he decided to take a back seat on the whole radio and DJ'ing, and put all his focus into working on live tracks, incorporating analogue sounds with digital mixing. Thus, from this, his alias of "Midnight Manoeuvers" was formed, and is currently working on various E.P.s along with a concept album.
Having early support from the likes of Ulybug Records, Hedonistic Records, De-Funkt and a few other labels interested in this new sound, 2018 looks set to see a plethora of releases, along with a live show planned along the way.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

My influences come from a vast array of genres, as well as artists and producers. I've always been a huge fan of Sasha and John Digweed, and have always loved what they play, and produce. They have had a very heavy influence of how my sound has shaped with my "Midnight Manoeuvers" alias. Carl Cox is also another big influence on me. I have always admired how he has never stuck to one single genre, and is never afraid to experiment when it comes to producing or mixing for that matter. His influence on Techno has had such an impact on the scene, and I am always keen to hear what and where he's playing, and how he controls the crowd via his music.
As for my taste in music, it has changed dramatically over the years. I was a bit of a raver for a fair few years, until I drifted off into Rock, picking up and learning to play a guitar along the way. It was at this point I wanted to learn to play the piano, but instead Ipicked up a Synth, and never looked back. I took my sound into House, producing a few House tracks, which got quite a bit of attention. However, I felt this wasn't enough for me, and wanted to get my creative juices flowing a bit more, and so here we are, producing Melodic Techno.
I am never afraid to experiment, and will always try to push boundaries, or think outside the box if I think it will work.

What´s new right now?

I am currently spending most my time in the studio, working on new material, including up and coming E.P.s due out on Hedonistic Records, and Ulybug Records, as well as a release due shortly out on De-Funkt. As well as all this, I am currently working on material for a live show only, so this will be performed and recorded live at the event. This is yet to be confirmed, but will hopefully be later this year.
