Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
My name is Devin Belanger, and I'm one half of the Canadian electronic duo Miles Away. Our sound is a blend of organic sounds like guitar and world instruments combined with influences of future bass, dance and pop.
We really try not to confine ourselves to one genre, but the golden rule for us is melody and atmosphere: whether it's fast, slow, or somewhere in between, every Miles Away track is going to have a chord progression that will (hopefully) tug on your heartstrings, and a melody that might end up stuck in your head!
We tend to do more tracks with vocals, but we have released instrumentals as well, and are currently working on our debut EP, which will have a mix of quite a few different genres — vocal and instrumental.
Here's a couple of our tracks to get an idea of!

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
I think our music is so varied because of the enormous amount of different bands, producers and composers that both Danny and I grew up listening. Years before starting Miles Away, Danny was a solo act, producing and deejaying mostly electro and big room house. He also (not so) secretly loves corny 90s pop. So we get a lot of the energetic and poppy side of our music from his past influences.
For me, my dad is a jazz and world musician for a living, so I really grew up listening to a very eclectic taste in music. I remember him taking us to see Peter Gabriel live, which really changed my life. I'd never known music that could move one so profoundly. I also went through a serious post-rock and progressive metal phase when I was younger, where bands like Hammock, This Will Destroy You, Dream Theater and Between the Buried and Me. In recent years, I've become obsessed with the War On Drugs. However, my biggest influences of all would have to be Madeon and Porter Robinson. To me these guys really epitomize the best of electronic music: songs that you feel like you've known your whole life, even though you have never heard them before.
So, I'd say my tastes, both past and present, contribute a lot to our more nostalgic, dreamy and melancholic side. We are always trying to strike a fine balance between what's going to be fun, energetic and catchy, but also emotionally moving and truly us.
What´s new right now?
Lots in the works! In roughly one week, we're independently releasing our newest single called "Chasing U". We're really excited about this track as it's a bit of a move away from the more poppy side of Miles Away, and is more of a taste of what to expect from our upcoming EP.
We've also got two official remixes coming out in the next month: one for William Black, premiering on EDM.com March 13th, and one for Will Sparks coming shortly after on Teamwrk Records.
