Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

Hey guys, my name is Mir and I'm an edm and hip hop producer from Akron, OH now living in NYC.
Music has always been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until I began producing tracks on ableton that things really clicked for me. I fell in love with the process of creating and arranging instrumentals of a song and having control over the full creative process, and I started producing music in pretty much all of my free time. I started taking music production more seriously in July, when I launched my debut music project "Mir”.
Growing up as a Russian American has had a strong influence on my life and how I see the world. My parents and I came over from Russia when I was 4 I’ve always kept that very close to my heart because it has really shaped my experience here in America. It’s sad to see the poor reputation Russia always receives in the media when the culture, people and language are actually very beautiful. There’s a lot of expression and feeling that doesn’t really get noticed. "Mir" is actually a Russian word meaning both "peace" and "world". The word itself symbolizes what I try to express in life and my music. Music has brought me both peace and a better understanding of people and my emotions, and that’s a feeling I would really like to share with other people through my own music. Music has gotten me through a lot of my toughest days and I know its done the same for others. I would love for my music to impact people this way.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

I started producing about a year ago, but I've had past musical experience, which has eased the transition into electronic music. When I was 16 I started a hard rock duo called "The Lost Cosmonauts" with a friend from of mine from high school, about a year after I picked up the guitar. Later in college I formed a band named "LazerTits" with a few close friends.
When I was younger I listened to mostly classic and indie rock and those set the foundation for my music taste, but later in college I started listening to more hip hop. Late in college I discovered funk music, and also dabbled a bit in 80's electronic music. After I started producing I got heavily into EDM and hip hop, and I listen primarily to those 2 now, although I dip back into my old habits sometimes for inspiration. Ekali and Flume are probably 2 of my biggest EDM inspirations that got me into producing. I really enjoy the melodic side of EDM mixed in with the hard rhythms of dance music. I've now gotten more into producing melodic trap tracks, with my inspirations continuing to grow every day. I’m currently listening to artists such as josh pan, Oshi and JUDGE, just to name a few
I’ve really gotten a taste of a wide variety of music, through both exploration and other people. As a result, my influences have changed dramatically over the years and will continue to change.
Right now I feel like I’ve created a solid sound that will grow and develop around a strong core.

What´s new right now?

My debut single "Athena" that came out in November was the first track I produced that I felt was ready for release. "Athena" is a more relaxed, ambient "Odesza-esque" track that was received positively. It was added to a number of spotify playlists and was uploaded on a number of youtube channels, and has gotten me over 11k plays on soundcloud.

With the success of Athena, I'm excited to be releasing 2 new remixes within the next few weeks. After the remixes I have a few originals planned both on my own and in collaboration with a fellow NYC trap producer, "J-Day." in the spring I plan to start DJing in order to prepare myself for shows in the summer. By the end of the year I plan to release an EP, launch a NYC trap collective with J-Day and start playing shows in the area consistently. I'm very excited to see what this year will bring. Follow me on twitter and instagram to follow my journey and say hi, and follow me on soundcloud, spotify and other streaming services to hear my music as soon as it’s released. Thanks everyone.

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

I worked on one track for my first track for a few months and it still came out poorly. At the beginning work on as many projects as you can, finish them quickly and move on. Try to push yourself with each one and you'll learn more and more.

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?

At the beginning don't stick to just one specific style or genre, branch out and try different techniques and challenge yourself with every track and you'll learn a lot that you can then apply to your main style.

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?

We all struggle with this from time to time, but the best move is to just press on and finish the track however it comes out. Even if the track doesn't turn out as well as you hoped like you might fear, you can just move onto your next track instead of wasting time. Most times though I've found that you will be surprised by what you come up with when you just press on. However, if you're really not feeling a track anymore, sometimes it's time to move on, but try to finish the track if you can.
