Nicolás Téllez

Read the Nicolás Téllez Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

My name is Nicolás Téllez and i’m an upcoming EDM DJ and Producer from Colombia. Right now i’m 19 years old (born in 1998) and have been involved in electronic music production for the past 4-5 years. My production range includes genres from Future Bass, Deep and Tropical House all the way to Hard Dance, crossing through Progressive House and Big Room. My love for EDM music began back when i was 13 years old with the classic track Komodo by Mauro Picotto and the amazing productions from Swedish House Mafia. But it wasn’t until i turned 15 where i found my true love: Big Room. Since then i began filling my library with this genre and decided i wanted to start making my own tracks. Since then it has been a journey of learning about production, mixing techniques and a lot of youtube tutorials, and even more practice and experimentation. Until this day i still consider Big Room my main genre in which i focus the most. Here you have some of my latest Big Room tracks:

But i also like to produce some other genres in EDM as i mentioned above, here are some examples:
From Drum & Bass

To Deep House

Even some Chill House in between

Anyway EDM is my life and being a professional music producer my dream.

PD: I like to collaborate with other artists, i believe this opens new doors to my musical taste and it offers an opportunity to learn anything that the other producer can teach me and the other way around. I believe it’s the perfect way to grow as an artist.
At the end of the interview you’ll have my social media links. If you’re an artist and you’re interested in a collab don’t doubt in sending me a message!! I will be more than pleased to be able to work with some of you!

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

As said before, Big Room is my life. My main influences who brought me into Big Room were mainly 3 well known DJ’s:
Hardwell with his amazing track Spaceman, still one of my favourites.
The awesome duo Blasterjaxx with productions like Snake and That Big.
And las but not least, Firebeatz with tracks like their remix of Calabria or Guitar Track with Sander van Doorn.

I believe this hasn’t changed a lot throughout the years, i still get goosebumps while i listen to those amazing tracks. Though Big Room has indeed been evolving lately with producers like KEVU, Olly James and KURA, i try to adapt with the genre and gladly i can say that i like where it’s going. For me Big Room will never die, no matter what everybody says, it just has an energy that no other genre has (maybe Hard Dance does? let me know your thoughts!).

What´s new right now?

Lately i’ve been working on a lot of remixes from the pack of acapella’s that Hardwell gave away from reaching 1M likes on his Facebook page, some collaborations with a couple of great artists and finishing an Big Room EP, called the Savage EP (more about this coming soon on my social media so stay tuned!) I leave you here with the first track of the Hardwell Remixes EP, hope you like it!

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

I tried to learn everything about production before i actually started making music. I would advise not to pay a lot of attention to all the techniques and technical stuff in the beginning but just to make music. You can learn the technical stuff as you become better and as you understand more about production, but don’t get stuck on the technical.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

Getting exposure, it’s the hardest for me. I don’t think i have over comed it but i do anything i can to get my work out there. Repost Exchange is a great service i’ve used lately and i know it works. Also trying to get your music into blogs and YouTube channels can be useful.

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?

Just finish it, force yourself to finish it. Even if you don’t know what to do to finish it just find something you like and finish the track. If not you’ll end up with a lot of unfinished projects.
