Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

Hi! My name is Sebastian. I'm 17 years old electronic music producer producer and DJ from Santiago, Chile. I've been studying music production for a year and a half, but started doing it seriously about 3 months ago. Also, i've DJing for 8-9 months and played in a couple of parties, but i mainly focus on music production. As i mentioned earlier, i'm from Chile, a country where the EDM scene consists of what plays in the radio, reggeaton, trap/rap or techno, and the Dubstep or Drum n Bass scene is pretty small. I wanna change that. I mainly focus on those genres, but i wanna expand the scene and try to make people discover and enjoy those genres as much as i do.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

I listen to a lot of music so i have literally thousands of influences, but i would say one of the most important ones have to be the record label Monstercat. I've known the label for 4 years, but really became a huge fan like 2 years ago. They mainly release Dubstep, DnB, Electro, Glitch Hop and many other genres, but most of their stuff is pretty unique compared to the whole EDM scene. Monstercat teached me the beauty of electronic music and how EDM can be art and not just random beeps and boops made by a computer. I'm also very influenced and inspired by more unknown/underground artists, like Similar Outskirts, Sekai, Synthion, Skybreak, Mewnlight Rose, among many others. But if i had to choose one artist that has influenced me the most, i would say Fox Stevenson, since he was the one that got me into EDM in the first place, and as i said before, showed me the beauty of electronic music.

What´s new right now?

I haven't released anything as Nire yet, but i've been working on stuff behind the scenes. I'll won't release anything soon, but i'll probably try to release something this year, maybe at the end of 2018, so stay tuned.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

My biggest challenge right now is to take the idea of a song i have in my head and make it into music. I can have the idea of a really good drop, but if i can't recreate that on my computer, that idea is useless. I've been getting better at it (thanks to practise and youtube videos) , but i still struggle a lot with it. Even if i don't have anything in mind, i still struggle to start a song from nothing. But the key to overcome that challenge is simple: Practise and consistency. I know it sounds cliche, but i think that those are the 2 reason i've been getting better in music production, but i still have a lot of stuff to learn.

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?

Apart from practise, consistency and youtube tutorials, i think one good way to improve your skills is to watch production livestreams. There are thousands of artists that livestream themselves making music for hours and hours everyday, and that really helps a lot since you are literally watching how they are making the tracks you listen to. There are also "Track Showcases" on Youtube, where artists explain why and how they made already released tracks, while giving tips to the viewer. I think it's one of the most useful methods to learn music production, since you learn a lot about how professional tracks are made.
