Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

Hi I'm phogen! I love making wonderful music, wylin out on stage with my friends, and being 100% on some shit. I make some darker, trappy hip hop beats, some uptempo, uplifting dance music, some funk wave stuff… at the end of the day I make what I'm feeling, I make what I want to make. Music has been a very personal passion of mine, and I'll always be creating for the right reasons; I'm excited to be sharing more of my art with the public.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

My influences are all over the place and always evolving, and I hold that dynamic responsible for giving my music's unique sound. My parents put me on some killer music as a kid—RHCP, Green Day, Pink Floyd—and that definitely provided a strong foundation for my taste (my "wonderful" tag is actually a cut from one of those artists!). I went on to find MGMT, the Black Keys, and blink-182 still pretty young, all of which are still major influences of mine.

In high school, I discovered Dubstep and latched on hard, following the EDM scene closely through the trap wave and into early future bass. The UKF Dubstep mixes were actually what got me into DJ'ing and eventually production. High school brought lots of punk and emo music as well, shoutouts to Fueled by Ramen and Run for Cover Records. I've spent days in dingy Philadelphia venues at pop punk and hardcore shows, throwing bows and getting sweaty.

As I went further into beatmaking in late high school and college, my taste turned primarily to hip hop, and that's my main shit right now. Got a lot of love for the classics—some of my favorites include Wu Tang, Nas, & Big L—but lately I've been doing my best to stay up to date on the soundcloud scene. My current artist to watch is 6 Dogs, don't sleep!

What´s new right now?

I actually just got back yesterday from a road trip up to NH! Threw a wiiiiild winter carnival concert with MiX'D, Jiro, and yung jüül at Dartmouth College in Bones Gate, recap material coming soon. Also just dropped a new track "different paper" with tha don Joseph Jawn, a little flip of "GUMMO" by NY artist 6ix9ine. That's on my soundcloud if you haven't peeped yet. Other than that, I've been steady grinding on my website and just started an instagram—be sure to follow me if you aren't already!
