Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

Hi, my name is Javier S. Castro (Aka: RYSE). I am currently 19 years old living in Pomona, California and I have been producing music ever since I was 12 years old. Like most people who start making music, I was TERRIBLE. The first daw I began using was Fl Studio 9. I remember the first thing I would see when opening up Fl Studio 9 was the channel track and playlist. I began by doing the simple kick and snare pattern with hi hats on every 1/8th bar. I would throw in a random sample and call it the next big thing… little did I know it was extremely bad. Back in 7th grade I would hand out my "mixtapes" in class and tell them that they weren't gonna be disappointed. I had about 5 people return the mixtapes back to me telling me it was the worse thing they've ever heard. I was even bullied because of it. At that point I had given up… It wasn't until I was inspired by EDM. I loved the way music made you feel. I started off by listening to Daft Punk, David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia, Skrillex and many more. I began to study that style of music and all it's components. I studied the layouts, the instrumentation, the key signatures, and mixing styles. That was when I finally started to improve my sound… it began with inspiration.

Some other inspirations I have (as weird as this may sound) is pain. I have gone through my own battles of depression and loneliness and every time I have felt that way music was there for me. It helped me incorporate emotions into my own songs. I found that to be the most beautiful thing. Find something you're passionate about and keep on fighting for it. Don't look down, instead keep you're head up and never give up. Keep moving forward and use that pain as motivation. Like how I used it to improve my music…

Someone once asked me, "Javier, I don't understand how you're so passionate about music. Like… I don't get it?…". I simple replied by saying, "There's a difference between hearing and listening to music. Once you can differentiate the two you will finally discover the true beauty behind a song …"

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

The first styles of EDM I started listening to was progressive house, dubstep and big room. I tried making that style. So my music was usually around the tempo of 128 bpm or 140 bpm. Very simple layouts with basic chord progressions. Then I was inspired by a man by the name of Porter Robinson. His album "Worlds" inspired me so much. I thought it was the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. I have respect for his idea of bringing back true beauty into EDM music. I started making future bass. I love it so much. The idea of incorporating trap and jazz into one genre is genius in my opinion. Some people even add other genres into future bass like brostep, blues, disco, complextro, etc. Because of him i started exploring the genre. I discovered artist like Madeon, Zedd, K?D, Flume, Jai Wolf, San Holo, 4AM, etc. All that is left for me to do is to engineer my own sound. In addition to that, I love doing live shows and not just DJing. I want my shows to sound more natural than just "clicking play".

What´s new right now?

So I recently released a remix of one of my favorite tracks right now, 'Want You' by Rynx. Here's the link: https://soundcloud.com/the-official-ryse/rynx-want-you-ryse-remix-1
