Steady Tek-Nick

Read the Steady Tek-Nick Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

I'm Nick Israel, professionally known Steady Tek-Nick, an established Haitian audio engineer and Hip-Hop recording artist. Being raised in a close-minded community where a music career was practically considered a taboo, I had to seek out many other avenues to hone my skills and express myself through songs. Since Haiti lacked any music schools, I was forced to relocate in New York in order to pursue my dreams of becoming a musical mogul and putting my country in the eyes of the world. Apart myself, I was highly involved in creating a brand for quite a few of my close friends including G.Bobby Bon-Flo (RIP), Steves J. Bryan, Beat Gates, Dice just to name a few.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

First recollection I have of paying interest in music, I was mostly into electronic stuffs and pop records whereas everyone else around me was bumping Haitian songs and Caribbean grooves. I really started paying full attention to Hip-Hop when Diddy dropped his tribute to Biggie and around the same time, french group IAM came out wit a few bangers including La Saga featuring Wu-Tang Clan. Though when Eminem came out, he turned my interest into passion. As an adolescent going through my rebellious stage, I related deeply to his music and as such I started penning poetries and songs. From then I knew I wanted to make records for a living and started studying all types of music especially the Haitian retros like Manno Charlemagne, Toto Bissainthe and Ansy Derose. JJ Cale, Lee Perry and Lupe Fiasco also became some of my huge influences.

What´s new right now?

I recently released my debut mixtape, Blank Tape, at the start of the year and I'm currently prepping my EP, Chop Suey, with producer Yohanmadethebeat for a summer release. I also just signed my first female artist, Lizzie, to my weOutThere Entertainment imprint and her first single is to see the light of day in March, titled Metel Anlè. I have upcoming projects with Steves J. Bryan and I'm involved in other ventures like my weekly motivational series, Motivation Mondays, with the Kenovation real estate group.
