Super WiLL

Read the Super WiLL Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

My name is William, and my artist name is Super WiLL. I am a DJ, Artist, and Curator of sounds. Like many artists, music has been an important part of my life from a young age. Most of my early life was spent getting my hands on my family's cassettes, cds, walkmans ect.. and listening to them over and over (often till they where ruined…. sorry mom). I now produce music as an artist, mix and master for others, do some A&R/Management work for a few labels (Generation Young Entertainment & Pulsegroove Records), and DJ just about ANYTIME I can. I've spun at clubs, shows, festivals, events and bars across ALL genres.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

A lot of my musical influence comes from Scott Joplin, Winton Marsalis, Outkast, Parliament-Funkadelic, Daftpunk and Dr.Dre. All people whom I feel create a really COMPLETE listening experience in there music. My musical tastes outside of that are really diverse, I feel you can find beauty in almost all styles of music. Punk, Ska, and progressive metal are my favorite genres from when I played with rock bands back in the day as a drummer. As a DJ I'm really influenced by Diplo, Bad Boy Bill, and one of the first DJs I was and still am into is Steve "Silk" Hurley, the man behind the old-school mixes from the Tom Joyner Morning show, I still listen to his mixes a lot.

What´s new right now?

My next big project is an EP I've been working on for a long time, "Call of the Void." It's gonna have features from a couple of my close friends whom I have performed and written music with over the years, Pat Polzin, Lauren from the band "Rare Wolf," and Angelena from the band "Violet Sol." I'm really happy they can lend me there unique vocals for this project, they are all making BIG waves back home in the midwest. The Project will be released through my current label, Pulsegroove records for whom I am also an A&R Rep.

My other big project is my music collective "Demons and Associates." It started as a FB group I had formed with a small roster of DJs I would often pass off gigs I couldn't play too or I'd have as my guests/Openers for my own events. They are the only people I trust to send out in my stead if needed, all of them very unique and ON POINT behind the decks. NOW I have decided to change things up. I will be adding in singers and MCs as well to focus the group to be more of a platform to push and promote artists. I have a website, and have begun releasing music through most major stores under the D&A firm name (#DASFIRM! lol). I am currently seeking a way to gain more attention. I'd eventually like to start booking these artists at festivals, and doing venue takeovers. Its my passion project.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

I recently moved to central Florida, my sound and style (moombahton, Twerk, Electro-House) does NOT grab as much interest. On top of that the scene here versus the Midwest where I am from is not as easy to get into. Once I meet more people I think i'll be able to slide into it more. On the DJ side however, I have met some good people and have begun making some REALLY good connections.

Once you discovered new music, do you tell others about the new music/artist you discovered? If yes, how exactly?

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?

Don't always delete your failures. Saving an odd bass line or preset for a rainy day may be the reason you go viral. I've seen it happen. Don't be afraid to show off your sound or style. If you make something that you really dig, KEEP GOING. Don't worry about sounding like what you hear the other locals or headliners playing.
