We are The Maximus, DJ/Producer duo from New Delhi, India.
We produce and perform Dance Music to be precise but are very much inclined to Hip Hop and underground stuff as well. Although it’s been a while here in the industry but surely we will so happy to be working/worked with some of the better producers around and surely not to forget some uncredited songs too!
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
As a duo we have different influences to begin our journey. Frankly, being from Delhi, we never knew what EDM was back then in 2015, although EDM was at peak at that time. Funny incidents brought the two of us in connection with Dance Music industry.
Both of us have been friends for like 10 years now and it was not very difficult to bond together to work together.
There were many to whom we used to listen like Hardwell, Skrillex, Blasterjaxx, David Guetta, Dyro, W&W, Calvin Harris to begin with. But gradually with time, stepping into the industry, we had artists like Kura, Olly James, Matisse and Sadko, Yellow Claw killing the scene like never before.
So yes, influences have changed over a while but you can’t replace the idols with contemporaries.
Even now when we lack inspiration, we listen to those tracks that inspired us and motivate us.
Considering our taste, when we were at hell of a beginner level, we were so much influenced by Blasterjaxx that we used to imitate their style for almost months specifically Rocket by Blasterjaxx and W&W. The festival vibes always had us and we thought this is where we belong to and it has carried on till now.
Although, we do have tracks that run at 150 BPM or 80 BPM but eventually we prefer to make tracks which tempts anyone to dance to.
After all, what matters is the dance floor, where the magic happens, be it a club or massive festivals.
What´s new right now?
As of now we have a few tracks lined up for the release on different record labels. With a few tracks in the making both solos and collabs, we wish to make our people happy and surprise them too with some unexpected tracks!
We do have gigs which should follow up real soon but since one of us is having a job and other in his last year of undergraduate course, it’s a bit difficult to make it to every gig that we are offered or we request to.
So gigs kind of work only half a time for now.
But surely once we settle ourselves, will definitely increase the dates there too!

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?
The biggest mistake of ours was not to have any musical background as it takes quite a good time to learn and apply different techniques and lessons. Be it music theory or knowing your DAW well, everything comes handy in a longer run.
For newcomers, who are starting their fresh music career, our only big advise is not to give up while you work. There will be situations innumerous times where you will be willing to quit and choose a different path but trust yourself and your skills, hardwork at that time. What matters is how much patience you have to practice, learn, fail , get rejected by labels and still continue which will shape you and your music career.
And yes, always support your fellow producers at every level possible.
Networking is something which has played and will always be a key to smoothen your road to success.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?
The biggest challenge for us, umm…
To have proper studio sessions maybe. Because having a job for one and other still in college it becomes a bit difficult to manage studies, work and music altogether considering the fact that we have to be punctual everywhere. So yes, there are times when we don’t make anything but yes we manage out our studio hours either by cutting some free times here and there or doing it for a short period daily.
Either way we try to not loose direction of our current projects because as the saying goes, “it’s always easy to quit rather than to keep it going”.
We consider every happy and depressing days as a part of our story so yes, we are pretty much loving to create a memorable one in future.

How do you personally discover new music?
For us new music means anything that we hear for the first time and amazes us. Be it a synth sound or samples to a whole track, it’s very much necessary to keep ourselves updated and new to the scene so that we don’t get tagged as generic. We are also trying to implement something different in our tracks these days.
Hopefully results will be fruitful.

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?
You see the competition is rising day by day in the scene and to outstand others one has to be dedicated and skillful at the same time. Even we are facing a lot of problems while production but there’s always a way out.
Improving skills is not only learning to create your own sounds but what many of us miss is that the how can we do the same stuff in different ways and apply one whenever required.
Knowing how your DAW works is really important and trust us, it’s always ready to surprise you whenever you sit down in front of it.
Learn the basics of Equing, Reverb, Compression and that’s pretty much you are about to play around in terms of mixing. Certainly the more you produce tracks the more better you get.
And never ever be ashamed to have a bad release. It’ll make you thrive to put the next one in the list a banger!

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?
Well, we have this question once and everytime.
But for us, what we think is that the idea behind the track urge us to complete it. For those who struggle completing there tracks even with good ideas are probably because they might think of completing a “whole” track and this itself is pressuring.
Instead think of working on a track in parts, for example Create an intro (hardly takes an hour or so), you are already done with 1 minute of your song which surely will be inspiring. Also in the same process you might get an idea regarding maybe drop or melody depending on the chords and atmosphere or the feel of the track. So once either of the breakdown or drop is created in mind, it’s just the struggle to find sounds and structure the song really well( where sadly most of us fail).
So keeping the goals short, weekly goals for a track is surely gonna help one to compete a project.
