Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
Hi! My name is Tobias Martens and I am a producer artist and DJ, and make music under the name Toby Martens. I am 20 years old and come from Norway, but is currently resident in London, UK. I have produced music over the period of five years now, and my passion for music has just been growing with the years. The genres I mainly produce under are Future Bass, Chill Out, Electronic Pop, Melodic Trap and Trap Bass, but I always experiment with new genres and influences to develop my skills and style. My musical dreams and goals are to be able to make a living out of my music, by gaining enough exposure to travel the world and enrich people with my music.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
For me, music is universal and can affect people all around the world, regardless of continent, ethnicity, gender or religion. I believe music unites people by the simple reason that we all have a passion for music. My style of music is therefor influenced a lot by emotional-triggered chord-progressions and meaningful, personal lyrics. Until now, I have produced several remixes by famous artists, but quite recently released my first original track called "Call Me" featuring the very talented vocalist named Sophie K. The reason for starting out by making remixes and not originals is due to the availability of acapellas (vocal stems from existing tracks) on YouTube and the internet, and because I had not yet developed a network of contacts and people to collaborate with. Here in London on the other hand, I have made a huge amount of new friends and contacts, all with a big interest and passion for music! Now that I am working with new vocalists and producing more original content, the importance of having my own style and sound has therefor become essential. When I first started producing, I really did not have any specific style or genre, I just went for what caught my interest at the time. Five years back, artists like Avicii and Kygo were some of the most influential people in the House-genre, and I guess I got really inspired by their music and tried to replicate the same style and vibe. It was not until a couple of years ago that I discovered genres like Future Bass and Melodic Trap, in which I wanted to experiment producing music outside the typical 128 BPM tempo. When I then got feedback from my friends telling me that they really liked the new direction I was taking my music, I obviously got extremely motivated and continued to develop my style. It was not until this point that I allowed myself to release any music or remixes, since I rather would wait a bit and give out something decent, than to rush it and release something sounding bad.

What´s new right now?
I have a lot of exciting news in the coming months, which of course includes new music (both originals and remixes)! At the moment, I am working on five new singles, but I am sure there will be many more projects by the time they are out! I also have a couple of remixes laying around, but for now I am prioritizing the originals first. I will continue my work with producing the best music I possibly can, and will always try to bring something new to the table, though still keep it personal. I will hopefully do some gigs before summer, but nothing is for sure yet. No matter what I end up with in the future, I am forever grateful for the opportunity I have to make music.
