Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
Hello! I'm Javier Alexis Castillo, better known artistically as X-Ziliot. I am a producer of electronic music.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
In the beginning I was focused on some subgenres of the House. But over time I was experimenting and getting closer to genres like Glitch Hop, Melodic Trap, and mainly Dubstep.
What´s new right now?
My most recent trak is Springboard, and I'm currently working on a Dubstep track.
A Dubstep track is coming… ??

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?
An equalizer should not be used only as a tool that enhances the frequencies of a musical theme, its use should also focus on properly cutting frequencies that are not important. For example, in a vocal theme, the first thing I recommend is to apply a high-pass filter and, therefore, cut anything that falls below 80-100Hz.
You can do this using a multiband parametric EQ and once you've cut out everything unwanted, now, think about the frequencies you want to enhance. Please, do not make the mistake of mixing music focusing only on raising the frequencies you want to highlight in the song, and therefore, forget that the magic of a good mix lies in suppressing those frequencies that are not important.
Another mistake, add reverb to everything…
Adding reverb to any element is another of the common mistakes I made when mixing music. You must always add this effect in its proper measure, knowing that not everything needs reverberation, and not all instruments require the same type (short, long reverbs, with pre-delay, dense, light…).
On the contrary, keep in mind that bass instruments, bass drum, and in general, any sound that is mainly low frequency, will not sound good with the reverb. If you apply it in these cases, you will make your mix become a mess. However, you should add some reverb to the voice, snares, solo guitars, synthesizers, and solo strings.
But always remember to measure well the amount and type of reverberation you add. Normally, and in essence, little reverberation is needed to mix music. Sometimes, people focus on adding reverb and underestimate the benefits of the delay effect, which can transform your mix into something great when combined properly.

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?
It's easier to open a track with your favorite synthesizer, drum machine or sampler and just play with presets and samples, than obsess over finishing that song just like it sounds in your head. Take a deep breath, relax and, above all, have fun. You'll start playing with sounds or shooting rhythms with your MIDI controller's patches, and while you're experimenting, you might come up against a good solo hook or a catchy rhythm, a pulsing bass line full of groove … From there, ideas will start to flow.
