Yeti Noise

Read the Yeti Noise Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

My name is Paul Mendenhall, but I go by the name Yeti Noise. I began playing music at the age of 16 after being given an electric guitar as a gift. I was in many rock and metal bands growing up, but not one of them ever stuck around for more than a few months, aside from a pop rock band called, The Riot. I was in The Riot from the ages of 18-24 and was fortunate enough to travel the country numerous times, record a full length in the studio of my dreams with highly talented producers, and have our cd available in many retail stores and online vendors. When that band came to an end, I decided to study recording and mixing in my spare time. That was just the beginning.

For the next two years I spent hours every day locked up in my little basement studio watching tutorials, reading plugin manuals, and soaking up all of the information I possibly could. I quickly began falling in love with sound synthesis and electronic music. I loved the idea that an entire album could be written, recorded, mixed, and mastered entirely by one person. Once I was at a comfortable place with my skills, I started the solo project, Yeti Noise.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

The first artist/band that had a huge influence on me was Kurt Cobain from Nirvana. I remember browsing through my parents' CDs when I was about 9 or 10 and stumbling across Nirvana's "Nevermind". Honestly, I must have listened to that album 10 times a day for a year straight. It was the first album I ever felt emotionally attached to.

A few years later when I began playing guitar, I dove into popular classic rock music from the 60's, 70's, and 80's and learned as many famous guitar solos as I could to impress all of my friends with. Eventually, I was introduced to metal music by a few new friends. It was appealing to me due to the complexity of the music. Later on, Deadmau5 and Zedd became huge influences as well.

I certainly didn't expect to jump from style to style, but these transitions have all taken part into creating Yeti Noise for what it is.

What´s new right now?

I just released my first single, "Chasing Satellites Feat. KP" on January 9th. It's currently available for listening on Soundcloud and YouTube. It's doing fairly well sitting at a little over 12,000 plays. The feedback I have received from listeners has been incredibly humbling.

My new single titled, "Or Is That Me?" will be released on February 6th, so keep an eye out for that!
