Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
As a producer, I have been working with many upcoming artists in the Dutch music scene, including On The Fence, Josimar Gomes and Burgundy Son. Together we formed a collective called Purple Planet, with which we have performed on ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event). Together with On The Fence, we appeared on Colors Berlin in 2017, where we performed a live version of "Lotto".
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
My influences have changed in the way that now I feel I understand more of what the people want to hear in the hip hop scene, so I feel like I have a formula to make songs sound pleasant and relevant. This started becoming more like work, so in my free time I spend my time trying to do exactly the opposite of what artists around me want, so that I broaden my skill set. FKJ and Kaytranada have been great inspirations for me and have taught me that music does not always have to be so technical, but must have a certain feeling to it.
What´s new right now?
2018 will be the year that people will perceive me as an artist as I am releasing a solo EP with vocals named "Blueish". Here I will demonstrate my skills as a musician beyond the technical production aspect of it all. This will be a soulful collection of 5 tracks with a bonus track including all members of Purple Planet as features. This year will also be full of production releases I have been working on with other artists, including a project I am doing with Capri, where it will be the first set of songs I have worked on with a Dutch artist, which is why we will be releasing those with my alias Bard Smid. Keep a heads up for new releases on my Spotify (link below)!
