Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
well, I'm zai' an Audio/Visual artist from the middle east , Jordan to be more specific , and I'm mainly known as one of the few lofi hip hop producers around the region , i usually don't like to label myself as a single genre producer , since i experiment a lot in addition to working with multiple other artists in the music industry such as rappers like The synaptik , or an upcoming RnB singer called OMVR .
I was noticed in the scene after my first EP " untold chapters " and since then I decided to put more of my time into actually producing music since I actually study Mechatronics engineering , few months later I released my second EP " small talks " which clearly managed to put me on an international level , allowing me to be a part of soju collective , and doing international collabs with artists like icecreamcult , and yet more to come to be more accurate!
well my latest release was this lofi flip of the great Biggie – juicy ( https://soundcloud.com/za_i/notorious-biggie-juicy ) , which was my first release for 2018 since i was busy playing shows after my second EP , hopefully there is alot more to come in the next few months , but now focusing on also playing more shows , specially after being a co-founder of an event called M I D I S I N , with another local talent called Amroo Malhas , were the second edition of this event with be taking place on the 2nd of March , this year , and hopefully bigger events to come too!
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
As an artist , multiple factors can influence you to actually create music , a catchy sample , a unique drum line , or as simple as a meaningful quote , welcome to the life of a lofi hiphop producer , as simple as it sound , yet trust me , its takes alot of work and effort to come up with something unique .
over the years for me , my music definitely changed , i guess so to the better since i managed to involve alot of live instruments in my production , since I try to make time to learn or develop more in playing instruments , as well as trying to build a bigger knowledge in music theory too .
my change of music didnt change over time , it just grew to something bigger , i mean if you actually want to make good music , you need to manage to have your ears all over the music industry , it makes sense that as an individual you can prefer a genre over another one , yet listening to different genres of music will for sure , help you boost your creativity , as well as help you learn more and more , which at the end results in better musical outcome !
What´s new right now?
Well, bunch of originals , remixes and experimental projects are going to be released soon , and more collabs for sure , since i try my best to collab with as many artists as i can , that is an advice i would love to give out to all upcoming producers , collaborating will help you learn alot of different things you actually didnt know about , such as techniques , or even a small trick that can make your work flow smoother!
Hopefully few more shows since i will be moving to Europe in the next few weeks actually , which is for sure a big step in my career as an artist , being exposed to a bigger , wider , and a larger international fan base , so expect more international gigs to come through since i will be touring around Europe playing gigs , so if you heard im in your town , you better pass by!
